LAST Christmas, six-year-old cancer patient Jake Orman wished he could be a soldier for the day.

This week, his wish was granted.

Jake, from Batley, sent his request to the Children's Wish Foundation charity while he was being treated in hospital for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Over the past 18 months, Jake has undergone a series of operations and treatments

The charity and the Army were so impressed by his bravery they decided to make his dream come true.

On Wednesday, Jake was surprised at school by his parents and a military policeman who whisked him away to Carlton Barracks at Leeds.

There he was shown Army vehicles and equipment before being taken to Yeomanry Barracks in York, where he rode in a light tank..

The event was arranged by officer cadets from Leeds University Officer Training Corps, along with soldiers from 269 Battery Royal Artillery, 150 Transport Regiment, 102 Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, 150 Provost Company Royal Military Police, the Queen's Own Yeomanry and 4th Battalion Parachute Regiment.
