A man jailed after waving an imitation Glock gun outside a couple’s home in Dewsbury has had his sentence reduced by a judge.

James Dransfield was originally given five years in prison with an extended three year licence at Leeds Crown Court last December for possessing the imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence on September 13 last year.

But at the same court Judge Guy Kearl QC said it was now accepted by all the lawyers involved that it was not a case where a minimum sentence should be imposed as was stated at that time.

He amended Dransfield’s sentence to a total of 27 months in prison instead.

The court heard previously that police were called after a couple saw a man outside their home in Windsor View, Shaw Cross waving what appeared to be a gun. He was repeatedly shouting to Dexter Murray and his girlfriend Leanne Gabitas to come outside.

Miss Gabitas said later she was “scared to death” about what he was going to do but Dransfield, 26, left before police arrived.

Officers traced him to an address in Garden Terrace, Ravensthorpe where they were informed the gun was hidden in the top drawer of a freezer, when it was seized it was found to be a plastic replica of a Glock BB gun.

The judge said he accepted it was not a real gun but the purpose was to frighten those to whom it was pointed and he had succeeded in that.
