A FORMER Huddersfield woman is the new Mayor of Milton Keynes.
Clr Jan Lloyd has taken over civic duties from Mike Barry.
And she announced that this year’s mayor’s charity will be St John Ambulance, to promote its Youth Development Appeal and employ a Youth Development Worker for Milton Keynes.
Mrs Lloyd, who was brought up in Birkby, became a Labour councillor for Eaton Manor in 1996 and was a teacher, but is now retired.
One little know fact about the new mayor is that she was a founder member and is currently secretary of the Max Wall Society – set up to recognise the talents of the all-round entertainer.
Clr Lloyd is married to Haydn and the couple have a daughter.
She said: “I am honoured to be the Mayor of Milton Keynes and am delighted by the opportunity afforded to me to broaden and deepen my knowledge of our unique city and to meet a diverse range of residents who are instrumental in its development.”
