BUS and rail passes go up next month.

Metro, which runs services in West Yorkshire, is increasing the price of MetroCard, MetroDay, DayRover and Rail Zones 6 & 7 tickets from January 2.

Rail-related products are increasing by an average of 6.2%, in line with the national rail fare increase. Bus-only tickets are increasing by 2.9%.

It means a 40p increase on the price of a day rover bus ticket and a 50p increase on the weekly cost of a bus Metrocard.

The new prices apply to tickets bought on or after January 2; anyone buying a ticket before then will be charged the existing price.

Full details of the new prices can be found under the Tickets & Passes tab on Metro’s web site at www.wymetro.com

A Metro spokesman said: “Metro administers the MetroCard and DayRover schemes on behalf of the bus and train operators, and the rail prices reflect the extra 3% agreed in 2006 to pay for the six additional trains to provide 1,700 additional seats on peak-time train services into and out of Leeds”.
