A BRADLEY teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of Jason Ripley.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared dressed in a blue and white tracksuit, yesterday afternoon at Huddersfield Magistrates' Court.

He spoke only to give his name, age and address during the two-hour hearing.

Promising boxer Jason died after an incident in Sheepridge Road, Sheepridge, at 2.10pm last Thursday.

He suffered stab wounds outside the Jack Pearson betting shop and died hours later in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The youth was refused bail and remanded to a young offenders' institution.

Former soccer pals of Jason are to play a match in his memory tomorrow.

The game, at Standiforth playing fields in Dalton (11am) will be between Rawthorpe Raiders All Stars and Shaboogie.

Jason was the captain of the Raiders for two years at Under 14 and Under 15 level, after helping to form the team with his best friend Lee Sherburn.

Lee's father, Jeremy, was manager of the club and said: "Oggy, as we all knew him, was a great player, a very strong midfielder.

"He and Lee were best mates at Rawthorpe High School and they helped get the team off the ground.

"The Raiders later evolved into Shaboogie, who play in the Kirklees League, and it is fitting both teams will come together tomorrow to remember Jason."
