The family of Jo Cox have thanked a hero pensioner who tried to save the MP as she lay dying ... and people are saying he deserves a medal.
Brave Bernard Kenny, 77, risked his life trying to stop an attack on Mrs Cox outside her constituency surgery in Birstall.
He was meeting his wife who was parked outside the library when he saw her being attacked and immediately rushed to try to help her.
It is understood he was stabbed in the liver.
In an emotional speech today Mrs Cox’s sister Kim Leadbeater read a statement in which she thanked the emergency services for their help.
She reserved special praise for Mr Kenny.
Ms Leadbeater said: “We’d like to thank Bernard Kenny, who tried to help her.
“We wish him well in his recovery.
“What an amazing man.”
Mr Kenny was also rushed to Leeds General Infirmary and his wife Doreen remains at his bedside where he is described as being in a stable condition.

Tony Robinson, 40, who lives close to the Kennys in Birstall, said: “He deserves a medal for what he did.
“It does not surprise me that when people were running one way, he was going the other way to help. That is typical of him, he is old school.”
He added: “You do not hear so much about the good people these days – only the bad people.
“It is awful what happened, but what a great guy for trying to help in that situation. He should be recognised for what he did.”
Colin Frith, who tended to Mr Kenny’s injuries at the scene said the pensioner blew his wife a kiss while trying to comfort her with the words “I’m alright”.

“It was a crazy scenario. There was blood pouring from his wound and at one point I feared he was going to die. His wife was watching it all in the cafe. She was really upset and so worried about him.”
“A number of people were around him and two girls were telling him to keep holding the wound. I ran back to my workplace to get my first aid kit.
