An unemployed father-of-three who found an inventive way to try and find work has won praise from Examiner readers for his commitment.

Jason Allen, 36, of Fartown, stationed himself at one of Huddersfield’s busiest junctions with a placard appealing for work.

It read: “Lookin for work. Do any type of job”, and his mobile number.

He has been out of work for several weeks after finishing a labouring job — but his determination to find a new job has already won him two job offers, and even a proposal of marriage!

He plans to stay on the roadside in Wakefield Road, Aspley, until he lands paid work and can provide for his family, partner Heather and children Cameron, 13, Layla, eight, and Jay, five.

Unemployed dad-of-three Jason Allen took to Wakefield Road, Aspley, with a placard in a bid to find a job.

It was clear Examiner readers were impressed by his efforts.

On Facebook, Rebecca Ruth Ramage said: “Good lad. I hope you get the best damn job and your children realise how lucky they are to have you for a role model. Best of luck.”

George Dawson: “Big RESPECT to this man for wanting to provide for his family, more men should take note.”

Paula Rammy said: “I saw him, I was nearly crying! Good luck to the guy.”

Paul Hey said: “Shows the unsympathetic government that not all people out of work are scroungers. They need help, not persecuting. The unfortunate ones who have lost jobs through no fault of their own should not be tarred with the same brush as the workshy. Admire him for his efforts.”

Simon Lappage said: “Much respect! I wish more would apply themselves with the same drive.”

On Twitter, Social Revolution (@SRMarketingRach) was keen to share the story.

Michael Gladstone (@MrFlyerLtdPM) said: “Tell him to come down to @MrFlyerLtd in Lockwood, we’re recruiting!”

Not everyone thought his roadsign campaign was the best way to find work.

On Facebook, Jenifer Marie Owen said: “If he spelt ‘looking’ correctly he may have a better chance!”

Isobel Swizzington Crawford said: “But signing on means he’ll get more help job searching.”

On Twitter, Nick Raleigh (@MrNickRaleigh) tweeted: “Anyone caught driving and taking his number down could be fined. This will not work! Get to job centre, use free computers to chase jobs online. I’ve been in his position and it’s difficult but you have to follow the tried and trusted process. It will work.”

PetroL (@lePobz): “Great idea, waste time that could be spent doing free online learning to gain the core skills that companies are looking for.”

Do you think Jason's jobseeking method is a good idea?

Or do you think he should go to the Jobcentre instead?
