A BATTLING cancer patient has dropped 200ft for charity.

Pensioner John Dyson, 69, did the abseil at Baitings Dam, near Ripponden, and refused to look down until he was nearly at the bottom.

John is suffering from liver cancer and raised money for Macmillian Cancer Relief.

He said: "I was terrified but I could not chicken out because of all the people who had sponsored me.

"The worst bit is actually climbing over the edge.

"I did not look down until I was about 50ft from the bottom and the people cheering me on still only looked about an inch high."

John, who lives in Mountjoy Road, Edgerton, has already raised more than £800 for the charity.
