CANAL fanatics from across the Pond are coming to Standedge Tunnel at Marsden.
More than 30 enthusiasts from the US have specifically requested a trip into the highest, longest and deepest canal tunnel in the UK.
The group comprises of canal engineers and historians from the Erie Canal, in New York State, who are on a three-week trip to Britain starting in the south and finishing in Scotland.
They plan to venture into the famous tunnel on October 3 and discover the history surrounding it.
Leader of the group Prof Tom Grasso said: "Everyone in our group is looking forward to the trip. We are all avid waterways enthusiasts.
"Visiting Britain's waterways is an exciting opportunity to see the country's important canal heritage and Standedge Tunnel is famous as an engineering feat in its own right."
