A GRANDMOTHER has said winning a holiday in the Kirkwood Hospice raffle was the nicest surprise she’s ever had.
Jill Robb, from Mirfield, was stunned when she was told her ticket had been picked from thousands as the winner of a week’s holiday for four on the Spanish isle of Majorca.
The 62-year-old said: “When they rang and told me I’d won all I could think of to say is ‘really’. I just couldn’t believe it.
“I bought a ticket to support the hospice and put it away thinking I’d never win.’’
Mrs Robb’s husband, John, answered the phone call while his wife was out shopping.
The couple wondered what the call could have been about until staff from the hospice called back to tell her she had won.
Mrs Robb, a retired specialist teaching assistant, said: “No-one believed me when I told them. But the family were happy for me.’’
The couple will take friends away with them on the holiday.
