A JUDGE has expressed his dissatisfaction with the progress in the case of a 39-year-old Dewsbury man accused of having sex with a dog.

The case of Edward Cullen has been adjourned previously for assessments of his mental state and he was due to enter his plea at a hearing before a judge at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

But Judge Peter Benson said the issue of whether Cullen was fit to plead had not been addressed properly in the psychiatric reports and the case had “drifted” in a very unsatisfactory way.

“They’ve had three months to assess this gentleman and we’re no further forward in proposing any solution,” said the judge. “I’m very unhappy about what’s gone on here.”

The judge said he was adjourning the case again until March 3 when it was hoped that one of the doctors will attend and there will be “proper reports”.

Cullen, of Mountain Crescent, Thornhill, was granted bail with a condition that he live and sleep at a hospital unit in Wakefield and comply with the lawful instructions of his psychiatrist.
