FOUR young hopefuls turned up the heat to become finalists in Huddersfield’s Chef of the Year competition.

Foodies from across Kirklees were invited to take part in the junior and teen chef of the year awards – as part of this August’s Food and Drink Festival.

With early rounds held at Queensgate Market, all entrants had to come up with a creative breakfast dish.

The two junior and two teen chefs are now preparing to cook up a storm in front of an audience on the final day of the festival, August 14.

Sisters Abbey, 12, and Darcy Chapman, 11, of Cowersley, will have to compete against each for the junior title.

Teen Chef of the Year finalists include Rory Davies, 15 of Roberttown and Joel Guinan, 18, of Linthwaite.

Clr Peter McBride, Cabinet member for regeneration said: “It’s great to see so many young people showing such enthusiasm for cooking.

“Their recipes were really original and it will no doubt be a great experience for them to cook in front of festival-goers in August.”
