A jury has been discharged after failing to reach verdicts in the trial of an ambulanceman who denies sexually touching a drunk girl while she was being taken to hospital in Huddersfield.

Dale Kirby, 34, an emergency medical technician denies two charges of assault by digital penetration on the 18-year-old on November 30, 2014.

She claims he twice put his hand up her dress while she was lying on a stretcher and intentionally touched her intimately with his fingers.

Kirby told Leeds Crown Court he accidentally touched her once when he tried to protect her modesty and was thrown off balance by the movement of the ambulance.

The jury was discharged after the foreman indicated they could not reach verdicts.

A decision will be made in the future if there is to be a retrial.
