THE jury in the trial of a Huddersfield man accused of child sex abuse has been discharged after failing to reach any verdicts.

After further deliberations yesterday the jury returned to court to indicate they could not reach verdicts on any of the allegations faced by 42-year-old John Darby.

Darby, of Woodhead Road, Berry Brow, had been on trial at Bradford Crown Court.

He had denied a series of charges of indecent assault and indecency with a child relating to a woman who claimed he sexually abused her more than a decade ago.

Darby told the court that the allegations were motivated by hatred and greed.

Prosecutor Robin Mairs asked Judge Peter Benson to fix a provisional date for a re-trial and it was confirmed that a second trial, if required, could begin on April 8 next year.
