JURORS in the Birkby firebombing murder trial were sent home for the weekend after failing to reach a verdict.

The jurors were sent out to consider their verdict at Leeds Crown Court yesterday morning and spent the day deliberating the case.

The judge, Mr Justice Andrew Smith, asked them in the late afternoon if they had come to a decision and when they said they had not, he sent them home.

They will continue their deliberations at 10am on Monday.

Shaied Iqbal, 26, of Springdale Road, Thornton Lodge, Shakiel Shazad, 23, of Gledholt Road, Gledholt and Nazar Hussain, 24, of Dryclough Road, Crosland Moor, all deny eight counts of murder.

Anwar Hussain, 27, of Dryclough Road, Crosland Moor, denies conspiracy to commit arson to cars.

The three men on murder charges are accused of firebombing the home of the Chishti family at 40 Osborne Road in Birkby on May 12 last year.

Eight people, including five young sisters, died in the blaze.
