THE dying mother of one of the Moors Murder victims has made a final plea to killer Ian Brady to tell her where her son is buried.

Winnie Johnson, 79, who has bowel cancer and fears she may not have much longer to live, wants the prisoner to end her 47-year hell over Keith Bennett.

The lad was just 12 when he was snatched and murdered in 1964 by Brady and accomplice Myra Hindley.

He is thought to be buried somewhere on the moors between Holmfirth and Greenfield, but previous attempts to find his remains have failed.

Now Mrs Johnson’s quest to find his final resting place has been filmed for Channel 4 documentary Dear Mr Brady, which will be shown next week.

She pens a letter to Brady and begs him: “If you have got it in your heart to tell me where Keith is, it would end the trouble I have had for 47 years.

“I would like him found and buried before anything happens to me.”

She added: “I want to see Keith buried before I die. I can’t stop fighting. It’s my brain continually working all the time. I can never be free of it, no matter what I do.”

In 1966, Brady and Hindley were jailed for life for the murders of John Kilbride, 12, Lesley Ann Downey, 10, and Edward Evans, 17.

But in 1987, after the prisoners admitted killing Keith and 16-year-old Pauline Reade from Crumpsall, they were taken back to Saddleworth Moor, off the A635 Greenfield Road, by detectives to find the bodies.

Only Pauline’s remains were found.

Keith was abducted on his way to visit his grandmother in Longsight, Manchester.

Police abandoned the hunt for his body in 2009 and the investigation is now classed as ‘dormant’.

Only a major scientific breakthrough or significant fresh evidence can prompt a new search.

A spokesman for More 4 said: “This poignant First Cut film examines the extraordinary relationship between Winnie and Britain’s most notorious serial killer, and reveals how Winnie has coped with every parent’s worst nightmare.”

Brady was due to appear in court earlier this month to launch an appeal over his incarceration.

But the hearing to decide whether Brady should be allowed to starve himself to death was postponed this month after the killer suffered a seizure.

He remains in Ashworth secure hospital on Merseyside.

Dear Mr Brady will be shown on More 4 at 10pm on Monday.
