A WOMAN who would have been 21 tomorrow and her mum have been found dead in their Huddersfield home.

A murder probe is underway after the gruesome discovery was made when police were called to a semi-detached house on Fernside Avenue in Almondbury at 9.40am yesterday.

Police have confirmed today that a 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He has injuries to his arms and is said to be in a stable condition at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary under police guard.

He will be questioned by police when doctors say he is fit to be quizzed.

It is believed the two bodies were found in an upstairs bedroom where there had been a blaze.

It is believed the fire had burned itself out by the time the bodies were found.

Police have not yet revealed the victims' identities, but friends have named them as 38-year-old Samantha Jessop and her daughter, Becky.

The man questioned is believed to be Samantha's boyfriend.

According to local people Becky worked in a taxi office and would have been 21 tomorrow.

One woman, who did not want to be named, said: "I was a close friend of Samantha's at Almondbury High School.

"She was a lovely girl, very chatty, and so was Becky.

"They were very close and were always together."

Another woman who works in the One Stop Shop on Fernside Avenue not far from the house where the bodies were found said Becky popped in on Sunday afternoon.

"She just bought magazines and pop," she said. "She often came in here.

"The man who lives at the house came in on Monday night and bought some Red Bull high caffeine drink, joking that he needed the energy."

The house, 183 Fernside Avenue, is a neat, pebble-dashed semi-detached home.

In a poignant sight, Christmas lights remained switched on all day while scenes of crimes officers in white suits walked in and out, removing evidence from the home.

A red bell was switched on in an upstairs window with an illuminated Santa downstairs.

The road was sealed off for around 50ft with both cars and buses being diverted from the scene.

A police spokeswoman said: "The deaths are being treated as suspicious and a man in his 30s has been arrested over the incident.

"He is currently detained in hospital, but police are waiting to question him.

"Forensic examinations of the scene are expected to continue for several days to try to establish the circumstances of the incident."
