A judge will sentence next week a man who admitted the murder of a sex offender in Huddersfield.

The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier QC, has ruled out a Newton hearing in the case of David Mitchell, who had tried to change his plea.

The hearing would have seen evidence presented to a judge sitting alone.

But now Mitchell, 47, of Manchester Road, Cowlersley, will be jailed when he appears at Leeds Crown Court on March 4.

Mitchell was charged with the murder of sex offender Robert Hind hours after human remains were found during a search of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in Milnsbridge. The prosecution claim he killed Mr Hind and dismembered his body.
