MURDERER Shayne Haynes had written a letter of apology to Geraldine’s family and friends via his solicitor from his prison cell.

Part was read out in court.

“I have thought long and hard how to write this letter and how to express my feelings of regret and remorse,’’ he wrote.

“I know there are no right words to ease the family’s pain or bring Geraldine back, but I would like to say I’m deeply sorry for the hurt I’ve caused that night and the pain I caused Geraldine before she died.’’

But Geraldine’s mother, Mrs Christina Richardson, said the letter carried no weight with Geraldine’s grieving family.

“I wish he had been given 20 years,’’ she said.
