A MAN has appeared in court in Wakefield, charged with abducting and killing a 20-year-old woman.

Yiannis Revenikiotis, 27, of Neos Marmeris, near Halkidiki, Greece, is charged with killing and abducting Stephanie Hammill, by force or fraud and against her will, on November 29, 2003.

John Sudworth, presiding at Wakefield Magistrates' Court, remanded Revenikiotis in custody.

He will appear at Leeds Crown Court next Monday.

Miss Hammill, a travel agent, was walking home with her fiance after a night out in Wakefield when they decided to try to flag down a taxi in Balne Lane.

A car pulled up and Miss Hammill climbed into the back.

It drove off before her fiance could get in.

Minutes later she was found dead in Batley Road.

Revenikiotis, wearing a dark blue suit and open-neck white shirt, spoke only to confirm his name during the 10-minute hearing.

He was also charged with abducting and indecently assaulting a 24-year-old woman in Dewsbury between February 22 and February 24, 2003.

Revenikiotis was extradited to the UK under a European arrest warrant.
