GENEROUS Huddersfield people raised more than £42,000 for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

The Huddersfield branch of The Royal British Legion says it’s the largest amount ever collected by the branch.

The record-breaking sum stands at £42,513.99, with small amounts still to come in.

Jack West, RBL chairman and Poppy Appeal Organiser, said: “Support for the Appeal by the Mayor, Clr Eric Firth, Rev Canon Simon Moor and the Huddersfield Examiner with the mast-head logo were greatly appreciated.

“Thanks to the volunteers who collected at the Co-op, Kingsgate, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, to the Valuation Office who collected during the week on the street, to the RAF and Army Cadets who collected on Saturday November 12, as well as the shopkeepers, schools, churches, publicans, factories and offices.

“Thanks also to the branch members who made it all possible.”

The proceeds of the Poppy Appeal are used in the Legion's welfare work for ex-servicemen and women and their dependants from past and current conflicts.

Mr West added: “So to all persons who helped in any way during the Poppy Appeal. thank you very much”.
