SCHOOLCHILDREN have raised £1,000 for charity.

The 892 pupils of King James’s School in Almondbury held a non-uniform day in aid of the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust.

Some of the children paid more than £1 to take part in the event, held on December 17 before schools broke up for Christmas, taking the total to £1,000.

Associate assistant head teacher Jacqui Armitage (centre, back) is seen presenting a cheque to the trust’s fundraising manager Helen Mervill, watched by pupils from Year 8.

The charity was set-up by Edgerton woman Jacqui Roeder in 1996, following her daughter Laura’s death from cancer at the age of just 17.
