AN AWARD-winning house builder has been given permission for 20 new homes in Kirkburton.

Kirklees councillors yesterday backed the application to demolish a house and garage and build 10 properties on the land surrounding it off Hallas Road.

There were 43 letters of objection, mostly with traffic concerns.

Councillors on the Heavy Woollen Planning Sub-Committee heard from a resident who said a similar application in 1996 was turned down for highways reasons and more homes had since been built, adding to the pressure.

Jeremy Child, agent for Worth Homes, told councillors that Kirklees’ Highways officer Steve Sampson saw no reason the 10-house development could not be built. Highways said it would add an extra eight traffic movements at peak times.

Jason and Jolanta Ownsworth, of Worth Homes, welcomed the decision and said they would use local tradesmen and suppliers .

The developers said afterwards: “The plan is for a mix of properties, some larger detached family homes, some semi-detached family homes and also more affordable town houses”.
