Kirkburton District Probus Club has elected Brian Nelson as its president.

Founded in 1991 the club welcomes men and women who are retired professional and business people.

Members enjoy talks at meetings held on the first and third Thursday of the month at Kirkburton Cricket Club.

The club also runs an active social programme of day trips and outside visits.

Brian, a former university lecturer in transport economics, retired early and began a second career as a mountain guide.

He was elected to replace Catherine Eggleton at the club’s AGM on December 11.

He said: “The Probus club is flourishing with an excellent programme of events.

“But we are always looking for new members.”

Anyone wishing to join should contact Brian on 01484 604500.
