ANNIS Broadbent celebrated her 100th birthday at Shelley Cricket Club.

The Kirkburton woman marked her 100th birthday with a party at the club.

Annis left school aged 14 to begin work at Carter Mills before moving to Springfield Mill. She worked at Lion’s Fireworks during the war.

Annis married Freddie Broadbent in 1936. The couple have one son, David, who has two children, Sharon and Ian, with his wife Jennifer.

Annis, who turned 100 on October 11, has lived in the same house in Kirkburton for 71 years. Her husband died in 1995.

Annis enjoys doing word-searches and puts her longevity down to “good wholesome plain food.”

She said: “I have been lucky with my health. I have a good family and some very good friends and neighbours who have looked after me as I have got older.”
