A COMMUNITY plan for Kirkheaton will be launched next week.

Last year a voluntary group delivered questionnaires to homes across the village and the surrounding area to find out the community’s likes and dislikes.

Now, after 18 months of reviewing replies, the group has put together a community plan.

The group called Yetton Together is to hold an event at Kirkheaton Primary School on Thursday January 26 to launch the plan.

The Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Eric Firth, will attend and the school’s choir is due to perform before a firework display.

Group chairman, the Rev Richard Steel, said: “We have been delighted with the response to our initiative.

“We received a 26% return on the questionnaires which is over 600 replies.

“And we have already had people volunteering to join one of the working groups that have been set up to bring people’s hopes and dreams to reality.”

Smaller sub-groups have been established in the areas of environment, activities and amenities, children and youth and community safety.

Each group received the data from the questionnaires and identified the main issues which they have summarised in the community-led plan.

Mr Steel said: “Our strap line – action in our community – sums up what we want to see happen.

“We hope that people will join us on January 26 to see the results of all the work so far which we hope is just the beginning of some great initiatives in and by the community.”

The event will begin at 7pm for 7.30pm at the primary School in New Road.
