A CHURCH is raising money for victims of domestic violence.

Kirkheaton Parish Church is hosting a concert in aid of women who have experienced domestic abuse.

Money will be used to support a church member working with those who have been abused.

The vicar, the Rev Richard Steel said: “When we heard that a member of our church needed funds to continue her vital work supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse we decided to do what we could.”

The concert tomorrow will feature music including folk, organ and clarinet, Urdu singing and a ballroom dancing display.

Singers from the Asian Christian Fellowship will also perform.

Funding will be given to the Freedom Project, a charity based in Bradford that offers counselling, personal safety support and advice on understanding and avoiding abuse and dealing with children.

Mr Steel said: “Although they receive some NHS funding, they have many more women who desperately need their service than they can currently support, so we wanted to help them raise additional funds.”

The concert, at the church in Church Lane at 7.30pm, is free, but donations will be collected.

Tickets are available from the parish office at School Lane or on the door.
