SHE has helped thousands of youngsters enjoy their school breaks.

Now lunchtime supervisor Katherine Chivers, 65 today, can enjoy a well-earned rest.

Mrs Chivers, of Orchard Road, Kirkheaton, retired yesterday from Kirkheaton School, where she has worked since 1978.

She had previously worked in Huddersfield Co-operative store, before leaving to bring up her two daughters.

Mrs Chivers, a widow, also has three grand-daughters.

“I started in 1978 at the old village infants school and moved up to the New Road school when it opened.

“I have loved every minute of my time there and have seen the children of some of my earlier children come to the school”.

She had a great send-off from children and staff and received gifts, including a locket and flowers.
