A MOBILE parking van has generated more than £118,000 worth of fines since 2011.

Kirklees introduced the £73,000 06-reg Vauxhall Combo van ‘CCTV Enforcement’ unit in May 2011 to clamp down on parking problems.

Since May 2011 some 4,490 people have been charged, netting the council £118,203.

Clr Cahal Burke, a Lindley Lib Dem, asked last week’s Council meeting about the number of fines and whether it could be deployed outside schools more.

But considering it unlikely the council would buy a second van, Clr Cathy Scott, Cabinet member for Place, said: “The cost of buying the van was £73,000 with a contribution of £46,000 from the West Yorkshire Congestion Performance Fund. The question is whether it’s value for money.”
