Kirklees College graduation 2014

Kirklees College students celebrated earning their degrees in fine style.

Students wore traditional gowns and caps to receive their certificates in the graduation ceremony at Dewsbury Town Hall, from college principal Peter McCann, chair of governors Geoff Alvy and guest speaker Ajaz Ahmed, a Birkby-based entrepreneur and co-founder of Freeserve.

The students were also congratulated by a representative from the universities which accredited their particular course – Leeds Metropolitan University, Teesside University and Huddersfield University.

The ceremony saw 128 students receive awards including qualifications in art, design, computing, photography, education, fashion, animal management, counselling and child development.

Mr McCann told graduates: “My challenge to each and every one of you is to build on your strengths and seize moments of opportunity and challenge that life throws up and stretch yourself to become the best you can be in whatever career paths you take in to the future.

“It is also a celebration of achievement for your team. Everybody needs a support team behind them to smooth the way for their success and push them to their potential.

“It is also a day of achievement for the college team who have also worked to support you and challenge you to get to this day.”
