KIRKLEES College is offering a course on how to run a pub, accredited by the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII).
The college hopes the apprenticeship will breathe new life into the pub industry during difficult economic times.
Head of hospitality and catering at Kirklees College, Lesley Wilson, said: “We already have a number of local public houses signed up for the apprenticeship scheme.
“With the BII stamp of approval, it means that we can offer the apprenticeship and a number of other short courses to help our local hospitality industry flourish”.
General manager of the West Riding Refreshment Rooms, Dewsbury, Rosalind Arden was the first to sign up for the apprenticeship.
She said: “My ambition is to have all our staff working to the very high standard we set at the West Riding. It makes sense to use their training schemes to achieve these high standards.”
