Thousands of students are set to enrol on courses at Kirklees College this week.

Engineering apprentices have started their studies this month – and thousands more are now enrolling on full and part-time courses as ‘walk-in’ enrolments got underway at the college’s Huddersfield and Dewsbury centres.

Some 96% of BTEC Level 3 students passed their courses in 2013-14 with a third of those getting the highest grades across all modules. The latest full set of national results showed that Kirklees College students had the best results in England with a 97.2% pass rate overall in 2012-13 among colleges with more than 4,500 students.

Enrolment for all courses at the new £74m Huddersfield Centre at Chapel Hill takes place from 10am to noon and 1pm to 6pm tomorrow from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, and from 1pm to 5pm on Tuesday, September 2.

Walk-in enrolment takes place at the Dewsbury Centre for all courses from 10am to noon and 1pm to 6pm tomorrow and from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday.

For the first time adult education students can also enrol and pay for their courses on the college’s online store which can be accessed at www.kirkleescollege.ac.uk . These courses range from joinery for women to Microsoft Excel in a day and Spanish for beginners.

College principal Peter McCann urged anyone who didn’t have a place on a course this September and hoped to gain a qualification to go to a walk-in enrolment session for advice and to secure a place on one of the many courses on offer.

He said: “Even if you are worried because the exam results you got at GCSE, BTEC or A Level are not what you had hoped for, we can advise you on a suitable course. In some cases we will provide the opportunity to re-sit English and maths GCSEs alongside a full-time course.

Details of full time course places and apprenticeship vacancies are available on the college website,

Anyone who wishes to enrol at Kirklees College should take photographic ID and proof of previous qualifications.
