KIRKLEES College has teamed up with building merchant Travis Perkins to help students get the most out of their construction courses at the Ossett Centre.

The centre, which offers courses in brickwork and plastering, has developed a partnership with the Huddersfield branch of Travis Perkins.

The partnership will help to develop the facilities and offer students additional benefits.

Travis Perkins will be able to provide students with cost price materials and unused stock, allowing them to get full use of a wide range of building materials.

They will also accommodate visits to their workshops, to show the students other parts of the construction industry and the variety of career paths available to them.

The Ossett Centre has undergone work to expand the brickwork workshop, develop the IT suite and improve enrichment for students.

Paul Whitaker, a tutor at the Ossett Centre, said: “We were really keen to work with a local business that could help improve the students’ experience and add to their employability skills.

“We spoke to our contacts at Travis Perkins about working together and they were really excited about the prospect and said they would like to get involved.

“They have been excellent in terms of providing expertise, sponsorship and opportunities.”
