KIRKLEES Council has agreed to fund access work at one of the fire hotspots in the area.
The Huddersfield Area Committee has agreed to invest £10,000 to help improve access to Kilner Bank Nature Reserve in the event of fires.
This follows 35 calls to the grass and woodland fires at Kilner Bank Nature Reserve in the last 12 months.
The nature reserve will now have a second gate at the Bradley Mills Road end, which should improve access to the area.
Recently, firefighters had to reverse off the site via the same route for more than a mile, causing a 45-minute delay to one of their response teams.
Lib Dem Councillor for the Dalton ward, Clr Rochelle Parchment, said: "The time it has been taking for the fire service to get back off the Kilner Bank site has rightly been a major cause for concern.
"The plan to build a second gate will resolve that issue completely and I am delighted the area committee members have agreed to make this investment." added Clr Parchment.
Earlier this week in the Examiner, Huddersfield Watch Commander Andy Blackburn, told of the difficulties which crews face getting to the site.
