KIRKLEES Council has been praised for prompt payments.
The authority picked up an award from the Forum of Private Business.
Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman did the honours as the Forum recognised Kirklees Council as one of the country’s fastest paying local authorities.
Kirklees finished fourth overall nationally in a survey of how quickly councils paid invoices.
The next fastest paying Yorkshire authority after Kirklees was Harrogate, which finished 58th nationally.
Council chief executive, Adrian Lythgo said: “We have a long standing commitment to supporting local businesses by paying promptly.
“It’s a pleasure to receive recognition from the Forum of Private Business. We know that paying our bills quickly can make a big difference to businesses”.
