COMEBACK councillor Terry Lyons made Kirklees history by becoming the first independent to win back his council seat.

Clr Lyons represented Holme Valley North from 2004 to 2008 before he lost his seat to the Conservatives. But the 67-year-old from Meltham won the seat back last night, defeating sitting Tory councillor Royston Rogers. Clr Lyons said: “It feels marvellous to be back and I’m having a few drinks.”

The Meltham Town Council member has worked tirelessly to take the seat for the last six months. “My greatest pleasure is being able to help people,” he said. Clr Lyons won 2,833 votes, 300 ahead of Mr Rogers with the Lib Dems coming third.
