VOLUNTARY groups can apply for funding from Kirklees Council to help pay for running costs of local events.

The Creative Events Partnership Investment Programme will provide between £2,500 and £10,000 per year, for three years, to groups that put on festivals and events.

Adele Poppleton, from Kirklees Council, said: “We know that voluntary groups often run community events on a tiny budget and find it hard to plan more than a year ahead.

“We aim to provide a small amount of funding for three years to help groups grow stronger.

“As well as funding, we will provide advice and information, support with marketing, and encourage groups to work together and share resources.”

The deadline for applications is 9am on February 28 and to be eligible organisations must be non-profiting and have a track record of organising a high quality popular event in Kirklees.

The annual budget for 2011 to 2014 is £39,500. But this will depend on council approval each year and groups will have to achieve targets set in their funding agreement.

Clr Mary Harkin, who is Cabinet Member for Communities and Leisure, said: “Events are often run by volunteers, and we are delighted to be able to provide this support.”
