COMMUNITY and voluntary groups have received thousands of pounds in funding for arts and cultural projects.

Nine events to receive support from Kirklees Council include Golcar Lily Day, which gets a £2,000 grant, and Thornton Lodge Action Group, which gets £1,745 for a community arts event at Thornton Lodge Community Centre.

The others are: Artists in Mind, summer art workshops, £1,250; Batley Central Estate Tenants and Residents Association, GRASP Textiles arts project for women, £1,700; Holme Valley Orchestra, promotional CD , £500; Justify Move Dance Academy, Hidden Beauty, £1,000; Newsome Ward Community Forum, community show, £750; RADYCAL, Winter Arts Programme at Netherhall Learning Campus, £1,000; Slaithwaite Brass Band, Jazz @ the Bandroom, £1,000.

Clr Molly Walton, Kirklees cabinet member for communities, said: “I am pleased to see this funding being made available to local groups for local arts projects and events.”
