Kirklees Council leader David Sheard is recovering at home after an accident on his motorbike.

Clr Sheard, a keen motorcyclist, came off his machine in Leeds city centre and suffered a dislocated shoulder. No other vehicle was thought to be involved, a council spokesman said.

Clr Sheard was treated at Leeds General Infirmary and is now back home in Norristhorpe, Liversedge.

Clr Sheard missed a specially-convened council Cabinet meeting about the closure of Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre.

The meeting, at the sports centre in Cleckheaton on Thursday night, was chaired instead by deputy leader Jean Calvert.
