MEMBERS of the public have been invited to become community “watchdogs”.

Kirklees Council is asking members of the public to be considered as co-opted members of scrutiny panels.

The panels act as the council’s ‘watchdog’ and monitors the decision-making process of the Cabinet, the Council and its partners.

Co-opted members work with councillors on the scrutiny panels to look at the services and issues.

Clr Nigel Patrick, chairman of scrutiny, said: “Co-opted members play a very important role in the scrutiny process, helping to influence the council’s policies and challenging performance and practice. It is an interesting and rewarding role.”
