A NEW head of Kirklees Council was confirmed in his post last night.

Paul Rogerson will become interim chief executive from July 1.

He will serve up to four months in the role, earning £7,750 a month.

Mr Rogerson, who is about to retire as chief executive of Leeds City Council, was confirmed in his new post at last night’s monthly council meeting.

He will take over from Rob Vincent, who is leaving his £155,000-a-year job at Kirklees to take over at crisis-hit Doncaster.

The council hopes to appoint a permanent replacement by November.

Councillors paid tribute to Mr Vincent as he attended his last monthly meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall.

Mayor of Kirklees Clr Andrew Palfreeman described him as a man of “great integrity”, while Conservative leader Clr Robert Light praised Mr Vincent’s “basic honesty.”

Lib Dem leader Clr Kath Pinnock said he had been “a brilliant chief executive” while Labour’s Clr Molly Walton called him “an honest and honourable man”.

Mr Vincent thanked the councillors for their tributes.

He added: “It’s been a very happy and fulfilling time for me in Kirklees.”

Mr Vincent, 58, joined Kirklees in 1987. He became chief education officer in 1994 and was promoted to deputy chief executive four years later. The Bolster Moor man became chief executive in 2004.
