All of Kirklees’ museums have been awarded an accreditation by tourist board VisitEngland for the third year in a row.

The museums – Tolson Memorial Museum in Ravensknowle Park, Moldgreen, Bagshaw Museum at Batley, Dewsbury Museum, Oakwell Hall Country Park in Birstall and Red House Museum at Gomersal – were awarded the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance accreditation after they were visited by assessors in August.

In their feedback assessors described staff at Oakwell Hall and Country Park as “friendly and welcoming”.

Speaking of Bagshaw Museum the assessors said: “This is a very child friendly museum with an Aladdin’s Cave feel about it in every room. Children were observed thoroughly enjoying themselves.

“Staff were engaging, friendly and welcoming and gave the visitors a good verbal introduction.”

The Tolson Museum was described as having ‘a good family feel with a large and diverse collection of Huddersfield related artefacts that demonstrate the pride the residents have for their town’.

Clr Jean Calvert, Kirklees Cabinet member for museums, said: “To be awarded accreditation standard once again is great news and demonstrates the high standards met by our museums.

“We aim to provide a quality experience for all our visitors and the assurance scheme has recognised our commitment to this.”

The Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme, which is managed by VisitEngland, assesses staff welcome as well as presentation, interpretation, information and services available for visitors to determine the quality of overall visitor experience.
