AN INNOVATIVE media project is being launched in Kirklees to bring communities together.
The project – called Local 2.0 – will use internet and mobile services to connect people within the neighbourhoods where they live and work.
Working with everyone from councillors and individuals to organisations, it will explore how new web technologies can help people share information and bring more opportunities to neighbourhoods.
A particular focus will be on web tools like blogs, photo and video sharing and social networking – enabling people to create and share their own information online.
Many of these tools are free and easy to use and they can help community groups save money and resources.
The project will look at new ways the council and other service providers can use web technologies to support the people living and working in Kirklees.
London-based social innovation centre the Young Foundation, has created the neighbourhood based online project.
Council leader Mehboob Khan said: “I welcome this project. it will give us a better understanding of how we can use the web to create local opportunities and help narrow the gap between different neighbourhoods in Kirklees.”
