INSPECTORS visited a Huddersfield community centre to see how well Kirklees Council was performing.

A team from the Local Government Association visited the Chestnut Centre at Sheepridge.

Kirklees, which runs the centre, has been entered in this year’s Council of the Year Award scheme.

Librarian Amanda Ambler, who works at the centre, said: “I think the inspectors got a snapshot of what we do in Kirklees.

“We showed them the facilities we have here, including the children’s centre, the nursery and the housing office.

“We were doing story time with the children when the inspectors came into the library. They also saw a photography workshop.

“I hope they saw that the Chestnut Centre is a vibrant place which is a hub for the community.”
