A CLUB is seeking to change the times it opens.

Gawthorpe Working Men’s Club in Kirkheaton will today ask Kirklees Council for consent to change its opening hours.

The club wants to be able to open and sell alcohol from 9am until midnight every day, with and extra two hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

It currently has varying opening times throughout the week, ranging from opening at 8pm until 11pm on weekdays and from 4.30pm on Fridays until 1am.

It also opens at lunchtime on a weekend.

The application says: “The club members have asked if the club could open earlier and close sooner.

“We are finding that during the week the club is sometimes empty before closing time.

“Opening earlier would give the members the opportunity to have a drink on the way home and for us to close earlier to the benefit of the neighbours.”

Several neighbours have objected, saying there are problems with parking in the area and noise from the club’s customers.

Kirklees Licensing Panel will decide the application at Huddersfield Town today at 10.45am.
