HE SET-UP Huddersfield’s most popular rail attraction.

Now the memory of Brian Taylor – who died in 2009 – will live on at Kirklees Light Railway thanks to the unveiling of a fitting memorial.

The model steam vehicle enthusiast brought his hobby to life in 1991 with the creation of the railway at Clayton West.

The line was first constructed to take passengers to Cuckoo’s Nest.

It was later expanded to Skelmanthorpe and then to Shelley where all journeys now terminate.

The Golcar-born man built all the locomotives and carriages for the three-and-a-half-mile route himself in his home workshop.

The idea came after Brian started the small tourist railway at Shibden Park, Halifax, in 1984.

Brian and his wife Doreen lived next to the Clayton West attraction during their 15-year involvement.

The railway was sold to the Hurd family at the end of 2005, who still run the site today.

To mark Brian’s involvement, a sundial memorial was unveiled by his widow.

The sundial was created by Shepley sculptor Dave Bradbury.
