Huddersfield residents have been asked to strike up a note as part of a mammoth community sing to raise money for fallen heroes.

Even complete musical rookies can take part in the third charity Kirklees Mass Choir event, which will take place on November 15 at Huddersfield Town Hall for The Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust.

In the style of Gareth Malone’s Military Wives, new musical director, Daniel Roberts, has committed to making sure the choir will hit all the right notes in just nine weeks by putting their vocal chords through the scales.

He wants as many women as possible to get involved with this year’s concert and will guide, train and conduct the singers so that they reach performance standard.

Accompanied by The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment, the choir will sing a variety of specially selected songs over the course of the evening, which he hopes will be a sell out success.

Rehearsals will begin on September 7.

Daniel said: “I am extremely excited to be leading the ladies together in song to create something amazing in support of our Yorkshire Soldiers.

“Preparing for the concert will require weeks of hard work, dedication and commitment from each and every member.

“It is wonderful to be part of that brave regiment, and the thought of raising lots of money for our lost or injured soldiers and their families will carry our voices on.”

The Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust was set up to help the families of killed and injured soldiers following the deaths of five members of the Yorkshire Regiment and one other soldier in 2012.

President of The Kirklees Mass Choir, David Ridgway, said, ”I am very proud to be involved with the Kirklees Mass Choir. The ladies demonstrate a high degree of commitment, as well as having a lot of fun. It is so heart-warming to see this new choir moving forward with the ambition to make its mark.”
