ADULTS will be encouraged to foster vulnerable children.

Kirklees Council’s Cabinet yesterday agreed to spend £2.5m in the next five years recruiting new carers.

Officers estimate the investment will save the council £4m in placement costs over the same period.

Cabinet member for children Clr Cath Harris said fostering was the best and least expensive way of caring for vulnerable children.

She said: “This is about getting the best results for vulnerable youngsters.”

There are currently 222 children in Kirklees being fostered.
