CAMPAIGNERS will protest against spending cuts this lunchtime.

Kirklees Save Our Services has organised a demonstration outside Huddersfield Town Hall from 12.30pm.

The group is campaigning against Kirklees Council’s plan to cut its budget by £400m over five years to deal with the public spending squeeze.

Protest organiser Ian Brooke said: “Our services stand to be adversely affected by these cuts and those who are most vulnerable will be affected.

“Those who are trying to deal with social problems like mental illness, crime and drugs will be frustrated in their efforts – and all to bail out the banks who are still paying huge bonuses to senior staff and speculating with our money.”

Young people will join the protest against outside the Town Hall.

The organisation Youth Fight for Jobs in Yorkshire is supporting demonstrations on the day a national Budget is announced by chancellor George Osborne.

Organiser Iain Dalton said young people would be hit hard.
