A KIRKLEES saving scheme has bucked the trend and delivered a healthy profit for its members.
Castle and Minster Credit Union, a not-for-profit mutual society started by Kirklees Council staff, has shrugged off the miserable economic climate and paid out a generous 3% dividend to its adult savers.
Junior savers were paid a massive 5%.
The healthy rates reward the commitment of the 6,000 members and 1,000 junior savers.
Clr Christine Stanfield said: “Credit Unions have received a lot of positive publicity lately.
“A recent report in Which? Magazine is encouraging its readers to consider credit union membership and The United Nations has recognised the role of credit unions in delivering services at a lower cost and with higher efficiencies than other institutions.
